Royals - all in the hands...

The sad thing about all of this is that they are not royal, there is not a drop of royal blood (as they themselves count it) between them - they are not even nobility.
They are descended from northern European duchies, which had kings (or real Royals) over them and parallel to them, and by legal right may not hold those titles as some of their direct predecessors were often 4th, 5th or 6th sons. (Meaning that their direct equals on other lines may well be selling Bratwurst or Wiener Schnitzel (no offence intended, nothing wrong with that) in the local shop just down the road from the big house.)
Both lines (as they themselves and most people and places count it, and as they themselves have continued it) are descended from German dukes (this is not current nationality or legal identity). One small dukedom in Northern Germany (a branch of which had previously been farmed out to Denmark and then Greece (as contractual figure heads) when their kings ran out) and one north central.
Following the father's or patrilineal line (on Wiki - watch out for any inconsistencies) as they themselves count it, and continue it, or the female line (which only lasts for one generation when they have used it) back to their roots and these duchies or families always had real kings or royals over them and running in parallel to them and for some considerable time (to which they are not related). They cannot trace their lines to any genuine (none titular), serving or direct descent royalty (who have held royal power or place), or even to serving nobility.
The last Tsars of Russia seem to have been exactly the same (they were also German dukes (who had previously been farmed out to Sweden) the first duke-Tsar (or someone descended from a Duke way back when) did not speak a word of Russian, only German) that is why they were/are related and famously visited each other, they are fully aware of what they really are (most people are not, or not really).
The last genuine Russian kings died out in the late 1600s/early 1700s (who were Russian), the last German kings were around for a lot longer (and at the same time).

"More royal than the Royals"

When they brought the James's down from Scotland (again as they themselves count it) they were French (and had no Royal or noble blood). They were a family of stewards from Breton in France (they went to Scotland, then England and then back to Scotland).

Remember this, when and if you do the research, Kanye West (a rapper who enthusiastically makes triangle signs during his performances) is a Harvard doctorate level Scholar (factual - this is not humor or a joke). And, if your great grand father's brother (your father's father's father's brother), or even your grand father's brother (the closer it is the worse it is) inherited a title (say a Dukedom, and he was the son of a 2nd son where an agreement had been reached, and it is actually your uncles line anyway), does that make you, as one of his children, a Duchess, or a Duke? (or does it make you bitter? so near (sort of) yet so far) - so, keeping it simple, your great grand father's brother (and all of his family / descendants / children) or your grand father's brother (and all of his family / descendants / children).

Make up your own mind.
